She previously served as Assistant and Associate Concertmaster of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. A native of Canada, and graduate of The Juilliard School, she\u00a0made her orchestral debut with the Calgary Philharmonic at age 6. While at Juilliard, she served as Concertmaster of the Juilliard Orchestra and was the winner of the Juilliard Concerto Competition at both the pre\u2013college and college levels. She has been a soloist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and Boston Pops.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Professor Kim\u2019s relationship with the Atlanta Music Project goes back almost one decade. She has given masterclasses at AMP on several occasions, and\u00a0introduced\u00a0Kennesaw State University to the AMP community as an option for post-secondary studies in music and beyond. These events not only aim to enhance the musical skills of participants, but also to build a sense of community and support among musicians of all ages.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Professor Kim will begin her residency on Saturday November 2 by offering two violin masterclasses for AMP students, one aimed for intermediate level musicians and the other for advanced level musicians. On Sunday November 3, Professor Kim will be performing\u00a0a\u00a0solo violin\u00a0recital, with contributions from AMP student musicians. These events will be open to the public and will take place at the AMP Center for Performance &amp; Education.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ms. Kim&#8217;s\u00a0residency will also include leading\u00a0violin section rehearsals\u00a0with AMP&#8217;s\u00a0Junior and Senior Youth Orchestras, a meeting with Kennesaw State University Music Admissions, and\u00a0a\u00a0visit to KSU&#8217;s Dr. Bobbie Bailey School of Music\u00a0where AMP students will get to take private lessons with KSU faculty and attend a recital by violinist Soovin Kim.<\/p>\n<p><strong id=\"m_-7445630053967985787docs-internal-guid-9b441f60-7fff-1c53-b4b9-6addb177070b\"><u>Helen Kim Biography<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Helen Hwaya Kim made her orchestral debut with the Calgary Philharmonic at the age of six, and has gone on to become a respected and sought-after artist. She has appeared as a soloist with the Boston Pops at Boston&#8217;s Symphony Hall, as well as with the Milwaukee and Atlanta Symphony Orchestras.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ms. Kim earned her Bachelor and Master&#8217;s Degree from the Juilliard School, where her teachers included Cho-Liang Lin and Dorothy DeLay.\u00a0 While at Juilliard, she served as Concertmaster of the Juilliard Orchestra and was the winner of the Juilliard Concerto Competition at both the pre\u2013college and college levels. She is the recipient of more than one hundred national and international awards. She won the prestigious Artists International Competition in New York and, as a result, gave debut recitals at Carnegie Weill Hall and the Aspen Summer Music Festival.<\/p>\n<p>A native of Canada, Ms. Kim has been engaged by many of Canada&#8217;s leading orchestras, including the National Arts Center Orchestra, Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, McGill Chamber Orchestra, and the Windsor, Regina, Victoria and Prince George Symphonies. She has also appeared with the DeKalb, New Orleans, Aspen and Banff Festival Orchestras, and with orchestras in the United Kingdom, Germany and Poland.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ms. Kim has toured extensively throughout Canada and the United States, including performances at Alice Tully Hall and the Santa Fe and La Jolla International Music Festivals, where she performed with Cho-Liang Lin, Gary Hoffman, Andre Previn, and the Orion String Quartet. She performed Bach\u2019s Double violin concerto with Hilary Hahn at the Amelia Island Chamber music festival. She most recently made her debut performance at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Other festival highlights include performances at the Highlands-Cashiers, Banff, Zenith ,El Paso Pro Musica, St. Miguel De Allende and Sitka International Chamber Music Festivals.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"im\">An avid performer of new music, she can be heard on the recent CD release of the works of Alvin Singleton on Albany records. Helen performed the world premiere of the \u201cConcertino\u201d by Chen Yi, scored for solo violin and orchestra that was commissioned especially for her and the KSU Orchestra and was recently released by Centaur in 2016.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ms. Kim currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, where she served as Assistant and Associate Concertmaster for the Atlanta Symphony for three seasons.
