Photo by Zachary Toth.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"m_-7731138438075758455gmail-docs-internal-guid-223a8b6b-7471-03e6-7620-3a689d3ce7bc\">The Atlanta Music Project was recognized by\u00a0local communities for our commitment to<em>\u00a0<\/em>inspire social change by providing Atlanta\u2019s underserved youth the opportunity to learn and perform music in orchestras and choirs. As this year\u2019s \u201cstellar performers\u201d for the Community Forum\u2019s Intelligent Initiative, AMP\u2019s recently-popular string quartet captivated an audience at FanPlex Atlanta.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11687 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atlantamusicproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Community-Forum-2017Qu-West-Photography44-300x222.jpg\" alt=\"Community Forum 2017Qu West Photography44\" width=\"300\" height=\"222\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the forum is to learn about community issues and resources, share progress on neighborhood efforts, and continue mobilizing NPU-V residents and stakeholders for collective action.<\/p>\n<div><span id=\"m_-7731138438075758455gmail-docs-internal-guid-223a8b6b-7478-a23d-8e61-04fa4006eded\">The NPU system was established in 1974 by Atlanta&#8217;s first black mayor, Maynard Holbrook Jackson. His aim was to ensure that citizens, particularly those who had been historically disenfranchised, would be in a position to comment on the structure of their communities.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span id=\"m_-7731138438075758455gmail-docs-internal-guid-223a8b6b-7479-014e-d622-bfe1637d644d\">Mayor Jackson had the NPU System placed within the City Charter, which can only be changed by the Georgia Legislature.
